UPDATES

A lot has been going on over the last twelve months . I am moving from my home in New Zealand to the United States, to join my wife. As a result progress on the bike has been slowed, and the bike is now in storage awaiting the move. But there has been some progress, as you can see from the pictures below. I will do my best to run thought what I have done so far. Here you will find a over view of my progress, but for a more detailed look at things, I will work on updating the relevant sections of this site soon.

The first thing you will notice if you have been following my progress, is that I have not painted the bike it's original blue but yellow. I decided on this color after attending a motorcycle show. I saw a bike in yellow and I loved the way it showed off the chrome. I know there are some of you out there that will feel it is wrong to not put the bike back to original condition. But my feeling on this, is that changing the colour in no way damages the bike. If in the future I or someone else wishes to to bring it back to original condition it would be easily done.

OK SO WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO. LETS TAKE A LOOK.

(1)  First as you can see, I have finished the painting, except for the chain guard which I got off ebay. As the seller was in the U.S. and I plan to ship the bike there it seemed silly to ship it here. So my sweet wife is looking after it for me. I can take care of painting it when I get there. Though the painting is finished it still needs polishing.

(2)  Second I decided to get a key for the bike, as i didn't have one. But on taking a closer look at the ignition switch, I noticed that at some point all the pins had been removed. Probably by a previous owner after losing his keys. A check of the steering lock showed that it too had no pins. The first locksmith I took it to told me nothing could be done, that I would need to find another set of locks. As I had nothing to lose I decided to try another locksmith. So I took it to the guys at HTL hardware here in Napier. The guy I spoke to there told me that he did not think it would be a problem, but that it may take a little time. Well less than 24 hours later, I had a call at work to tell me that my locks were ready to be picked up. I could not believe it, but I jumped in the car and shot over there to take a look. Sure enough there they were, both locks working perfectly and two brand new keys as well. And the price???, well lets just say I came out of there with a very big smile on my face. So my thanks goes out to the guys at HTL great job. If I learned anything from this, it's that because some one tells you something doesn't mean it is true.It never hurts to double check.

(3)   Next I had a new front tire, fitted to the front wheel I had rebuilt. It was nice to have them tell me it was straight and true when they spun it up.( I still have the rear wheel to restore)

(4)   Next I reassembled the main part of the bike. My main reason for doing this at this point, was to make it easier to crate for the trip to the States. But it was really great to see the bike coming back together.

(5)   Probably the most exciting thing for me, was finding one of the badges and the indicator lens I have been looking for. It came out of blue one day, an Email from England a guy named Carey . He had seen my ad on the notice board of this site, for a badge, and Emailed me to say he had what I was looking for. He told me it was on a frame sitting under a bush by his shed out back. As good as this was, it was to get even better. He asked if there was anything else I needed. I told him that the only other thing I really needed, was two rear indicator lens. As you can imagen, I could not believe it, when he emailed me back to say that there were two lens on the frame under the bush. But the best was still to come, he wanted practically nothing for it, just to help some one out. See there still are nice guys out there, thanks a lot Carey, you're a top guy.
For the pic I could not resist mounting the badge, how ever it will need to come off for some tidying up
Well thats just about it for now. I'll try and catch up with the other pages on the site, as quickly as i can. So keep an eye on them, for a more detailed look at how things are going.
